BAA Communities Trust
The BAA Communities Trust supports do-it.org.uk, bringing volunteering into the heart of the communities in which BAA operates.
In 2005, BAA Communities Trust committed a total of £75,000 over three years to support do-it.org.uk, to support the work Youthnet lead in giving people access to volunteering opportunities.
We worked in partnership to maximise the success of BAA's employee volunteering programme, i-volunteer, which aims to make it as easy as possible for BAA employees to give their time to community projects in their area. As well as developing ideas on how best to promote i-volunteer across all BAA offices and airports, YouthNet's volunteering experts ensured that the team at BAA were always up-to-speed with developments in the volunteering world as and when they happened.
In May 2008, The BAA Communities Trust committed £55,000 to support the London part of the do-it.org.uk tour 2008/9. The do-it.org.uk tour will train volunteer involving organisations (Volunteer Centres, local and national charities) on how to successfully upload their volunteering opportunities onto the database, using the newest generation of do-it.org.uk software.
Some 240 volunteer-involving organisations from London and the South East will be trained by YouthNet on how to use the new software.
The BAA Communities Trust says:
"The donation is a reflection of our company's commitment to giving something back to our local communities. The service YouthNet provides is key to the way that we inspire our staff - located at airports around the UK - to volunteer. We encourage our employees to access do-it.org.uk through the BAA intranet and by doing so they make a tangible difference to the communities where they live and work.
"Through our partnership we also aim to help many organisations local to our airports build on their capacity to attract the extra support they need by inspiring more people to volunteer their time and skills." Caroline Nicholls, Director BAA Communities Trust
The BAA Communities Trust
The BAA Communities Trust was established in 1996 and has donated more than £4 million in grants in its first ten years. The Trust focuses its giving in three main areas:
- Supporting local community activity around BAA's airports – with a key focus on projects that support education and youth development, skills development and initiatives to help the local environment.
- Initiatives proposed by BAA staff, such as fundraising and volunteering activities.
- Schemes that create opportunities for young people from the UK to develop their potential through overseas community and volunteering projects, in partnership with the charities VSO Global Xchange and Fulcrum Challenge.
