Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
YouthNet is extremely grateful to the Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for their grant of £15,000 in 2006, which helped to fund the creation of a new viral game "Turf War" aimed at helping young people make good financial decisions.
To succeed in the game, players must use their funds wisely to buy the best weapons, balance a budget so they don't end up out of pocket and out of ammo, and visit money articles on TheSite.org to find secret words for extra weapons.
"The new viral game, Turf War, is aimed at helping young people make good financial decisions."
"Money is an increasingly important issue for young people, but a difficult topic to make interesting. With Turf War, we hope to engage young people in managing their money. By using a mechanic that is relevant and entertaining, we hope to help players develop an essential life skill," Fiona Dawe, Chief Executive, YouthNet.
Following the launch of Turf War, the number of visitors to the finance section of TheSite.org each month had increased by 32%, equivalent to an additional 2,800 people receiving information to help improve their financial capability.
