do-it.org.uk volunteer satisfaction survey 2004

YouthNet carried out a volunteer satisfaction survey in Summer 2004. It was completed by 1481 respondents.

The results:

  • 45% are aged 15-25, 81% are female, and a quarter are from BME groups;
  • Two-thirds found out about do-it.org.uk through a search engine or a website link;
  • Half had never volunteered before visiting the website;
  • People often do not have just one reason for volunteering - for three-quarters one reason is to help others, and for two-thirds, to learn and try new things;
  • Practical considerations are important too - for more than half, distance from home is a deciding factor in choosing a position;
  • Respondents most commonly describe their volunteering experiences as rewarding, interesting and challenging;
  • Volunteering is very important to two-thirds of people.
