TheSite.org Christmas cracker survey

TheSite.org hosted an online survey from November 2005 to January 2006. A total of 141 respondents completed the survey.

The results:

  • Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for almost a third of respondents;
  • Clothes and ornaments top the list of worst ever Christmas presents, although 7% charitably say it's the thought that counts and any present is good;
  • Best presents are often computer or games systems, and a lucky 5% have received cars for Christmas;
  • More than half spend over £100 each year, and a generous 4% spend over £500;
  • Two thirds of respondents buy presents both online and in shops;
  • Two out of five people claim to still believe in Santa;
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas is voted best Christmas movie with more than 20% of the votes;
  • Santa gets a mince pie, and Rudolph gets a carrot from 25% of respondents;
  • Roast spuds are the most popular part of the Christmas dinner;
  • Three quarters of people don't go to church at Christmas;
  • 16% of people don't have New Year's resolutions, but for those who do, doing more exercise and losing weight are the most popular;
  • More than half believe they will keep up with their resolution past January.
