YouthNet scoops technology award

Pioneering young peoples charity YouthNet has won first prize in the Best Use of Technology category at the prestigious Charity Times Awards.

YouthNet won the award for TheSite.org - its groundbreaking online service for young people. Visited by over 500,000 young people every month, www.TheSite.org offers young people information, advice, support and signposting about everyday issues from sex and relationships to interview techniques.

In addition to the TheSite.org's thousands of information pages, there is also an innovative confidential question and answer service, community support through discussion boards, chat, a Local Advice Finder and now fast expanding mobile content.

The judges commented: 'YouthNet demonstrates with crystal clarity that it is embracing web 2.0 technologies to great effect. It's crucial that services directed at teenagers make best use of the platforms teenagers use – YouthNet has kept pace with the latest technology trends and is embracing new technologies with such energy and enthusiasm that they are a very worthy and inspirational winner indeed'.
