Response to Home Office child sexualisation review

According to a Home office report out today, young people are being sexualised at an early age, distorting their perceptions of themselves and what is deemed as appropriate sexual behaviour.

Matt Whyman, Agony Uncle from young people’s charity YouthNet, can give a first-hand account of the types of concerns facing 16 to 25 year-olds in the UK today.

Each week Matt answers sex and relationship questions from young people on YouthNet’s online guide to life, TheSite.org.

Matt says; “Avoidance of sexual imagery is almost impossible in a time when information can be accessed from almost anywhere and at any time.

“While safeguards are always welcome, at TheSite.org we're committed to providing young people with balanced advice and information to ensure they understand that any kind of sexual activity isn't compulsory.

"We recognise that knowledge is power. It builds self-esteem and peace of mind, allowing young people to make informed decisions that are right for them.”
